I've been awful worried about the number of layoffs at Disney this Spring, and am always looking for a glimmer of good news. MyDisneyBlog has promised to report almost entirely on the good news surrounding the Disney name, so I was elated to see that the phrase "Disney Vacation Packages" was on the front page of Yahoo as a "Yahoo Top Search" for the day. The parks have been very busy for Spring Break, even staying open later on some nights due to the crowds. The only problem is that people have flocked to the parks paying a heavily discounted rate - so while crowd levels are high - the amount of money received from the visitors was lower. I have no doubt that people have cut back on discretionary spending in the parks as well, which is definitely understandable given the current state of the economy. There is some fear that a lot of people took advantage of the 4/3 vacation specials, and moved their trips up from the summer or fall to this spring. I've even heard rumblings that there may be some bad news for the summer and fall bookings. SO, when I saw that it was a popular search on this Easter Sunday, I just had to report on it. Even if it doesn't mean too much, or is not translating into bookings - at least people are looking into it. We really need to spread the word that there are some terrific package specials out there right now, such as Free Dining. How could you go wrong with Free Dining at Walt Disney World. And, there are some great deals at Disneyland right now as well. Disney has weathered big economic storms in the past, and I have no doubt that with the excellent leadership right now - they will weather it again!
SO, if you haven't already booked your Disney vacation - check out some of the deals, and hopefully you can do it. I would sooooooo be there if my wife and mother-in-law didn't want to go to Hawaii instead. We BETTER be going next year or I'm going to throw the biggest fit :)
